Agricultural cooperative has a century-old tradition in these areas. The first lending institution was established in 1869 in Šmarje pri Jelšah. The legal predecessor of today's cooperative is the Agricultural Cooperative Šmarje, which was founded in 1948. The Agricultural Cooperative Šmarje as we know it today, was established in 1990 by transforming the former Basic Organization of Cooperators within the agricultural combine Hmezad Hram. The cooperative includes agricultural technical shops, grocery stores, restaurants, its own wine cellar Emino, and the purchase of livestock and milk.
